What are you most worried about for the future?

Nothing!

Why to worry, and what for?

Can I change the situation and is it in my control? Then I will change it, meaning there is nothing to worry. If it is not in my control then there is nothing to worry about.

The past experiences builds our thoughts, and creates worry and anxiety, and makes us feel insecure that we will end somewhere diverged from the set path, a defined path.

The thoughts about the future is setting us up to have a better life based on the thoughts from the same past experiences.

We are conditioned to live within the societal frameworks, network, wealth, cars, houses, degrees, status, religion, etc. The society defines what does good looks like for us via these defined frameworks.

The idea is to live in the present, in the now, where the life is new and fresh, is unknown and not built on the foundation of the past, i.e. a world where we are not controlled by our thoughts.

J Krishnamurti says that if we can do this then we will have “freedom from the known” and it can bring many benefits. I have captured more about this in my blogs: Spontaneity and Anti-Fragility and The Quest for the World Teacher.

The society teaches us about achieving security, on how can we make our life convenient if we walk through a defined path. This is the cause of all the worries and anxiety. We need to break away from any conditioning which will then enable us to live in the present, and walk on a pathless path.

Robert Frost, one of the great American poets, has a similar advice for us. The choice is ours on which road to take.

“Oh, I kept the first for another day!…I took the one less travelled by, and that has made all the difference.”

The Road Not Taken, Robert Frost

Would you like to try, choose the road less travelled by?
