Which food, when you eat it, instantly transports you to childhood?
The majority of kids who grew up in India would associate themselves with making purchases from the laariwalas (street hawker/seller) outside of schools.
Ber, a fruit called બોર in Gujarati or बेर in Hindi, is one of my favourite nostalgic foods from my childhood. It had a little sour yet sweet flavour, and it was traditionally served in a paper cone with plenty of salt and red chilli powder on top by the rekdiwala (street hawker/seller) that is, all the tastes that used to flow out of that tiny thing.
Fun part of it was the seed of that fruit. Once you eat the the skin and the juice, you are left with the tiny seed which you can use it as a tiny little toy/weapon/object that can be used to aim at things or your friends.
Days!!!
Have you done your schooling in India and do you rememember eating khatte Mithe Namkin Ber? 🙂
