I have been living as taught by my parents from early years to live in the now, but very recently I’ve been doing this with awareness.
I guess I was trained to live a spontaneous life.
At a short notice, I decided to travel India in the first week of October to celebrate my father’s 80th birthday in Nagpur, India, where he has many well-wishers and friends. Flying to India and returning from the UK in three days was not simple, but it was well worth it, not just for me but also for him.
I couldn’t miss the opportunity to do something for him, and by doing so convey on how much I, and we as family, adore him.
I generally do not hold myself back when I have to say, what I have to say, whether it is a sorry, a thank you, or it is about telling someone how much I love or care about them.
However, I do not remember of saying “I love you”, neither to my dad nor to my mom before she left for heaven abode.
It will be an excuse if I blame it to the culture I was born into, where men are not allowed to show emotions i.e. “be a man!”. I definitely need to take the responsibility and correct beliefs that are outdated.
This is when my parent’s valuable teachings come into play. My parents created a culture in which failures were acceptable because they were viewed as temporary; once defeated, they were no longer important.
For further reading, I have discussed this in one of my blog posts, Papa Did Not Praise!
Papa Did Not Praise!
How can we create a culture that accepts failure?
Today, I’m going to live that philosophy, the one I’ve learnt from my parents and I am about to correct the mistake.
Must say that I got inspired from Mitch Teemley’s post, love-before-its-too-late (it is a good read if you haven’t), which made me say this explicitly today.
I love you, dad! You are amazing. Thank you for everything.
Are you in a similar situation like me? Do not delay it further, before it is too late, let your parents know how much you love them.
